Hi
I work on the PR for The Outdoor Capital of the UK – Fort William and Lochaber. On your piece about Cumbria you claim that it is the largest adventure capital in the UK. I am pretty sure that the Outdoor capital of the UK is larger.
However that is not what i am e-mailing you I am trying to e-mail you a press pack for the Outdoor Capital so that you can feature it on your site.
I have enclosed (below) some information on the area but I would like to send you a full press pack if at all possible. Can you e-mail me some contact details?
All the best,
Paddy Cuthbert

The Outdoor Capital of the UK – History
The 2000 square miles that make up the area known as The Outdoor Capital of the UK in north-west Scotland have been a place to enjoy outdoor pursuits for hundreds of years and were a favourite playground for Sir Walter Scott, Queen Victoria and even Hans Christian Andersen.
Over the last quarter of a century The Outdoor Capital has developed beyond a place to enjoy the best of the UK’s walking, climbing and skiing and has expanded to become a place that offers an incredible diverse selection of outdoor activities; it can now claim to be the place with the most activities per square mile in Europe.
The Lochaber Mountain Access Group was first to identify the idea of promoting Fort William and Lochaber as ‘The Outdoor Capital of the UK’ as they recognised how important outdoor activities were to the ongoing success of tourism in the area.
In May 2002 the Lochaber Mountain Access Group Strategy ‘Changing Landscape: Lochaber the Outdoor Capital of the UK’, (May 2002), compiled an assessment of the range of activities available in the area and a plan on how to improve access to different kinds of pursuits.
The idea was embraced by the business and wider community and public sector agencies and in 2003 an ‘Outdoor Capital’ Steering group was established. ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’ was trade marked and registered as a community-focused limited company in early 2004. A board was elected in June 2004 and a paid executive was appointed in mid 2005.

From Knoydart the boundary goes east as far as the Creag Meagaidh Nature Reserve, midway between Fort William and Aviemore. To the South of Creag Meagaidh the area takes in much of Rannoch Moor including all of Corrour estate and up near the western flanks of Ben Alder The Southern border of the area goes down beyond Glencoe to Glen Etive with Ben Nevis almost in the centre of the area.
The area includes Fort William – the largest town in the west Highlands and the commercial centre of Lochaber, Loch Morar – the UK’s deepest loch, Glen Nevis, Loch Leven, Ardnamurchan, the Road to the Isles, Glen Spean and the starting point for the 73 mile long Great Glen Way walk that takes you coast to coast from Fort William in the west, to Inverness in the east.
